Accurate and timely absence information
There’s been a marked improvement in absence management since using Kronos Workforce Central. The real time availability of data now ensures that an absent employee is spotted with minutes of their official start time enabling production managers to take immediate action to either call in agency staff or transfer an employee from another line. Moving away from a manual system also means that absence data is stored in Kronos and can be easily accessed by the business. Carol Fletcher explains, “We now have accurate absence information at our fingertips including historical absence information for every employee. Calendar-type displays show us exactly when an employee was absent over a year and we can easily spot trends such as Monday/Friday absence or absence immediately before or after a holiday.” Absence targets are set by the business and the Absence Weekly Report is circulated to the management team every Monday to highlight the percentage numbers of employees absent on each shift during the week.
Efficiencies in handling agency staff
Kronos also supports efficiencies in the handling of agency staff. Aunt Bessie's’s agency arrangement means that it has 30 minutes each day to decide how many agency staff are required. With instant access to employee information, Aunt Bessie's can see exactly who has arrived for work and how many additional people are needed. “This amounts to a direct cost saving,” explained Carol Fletcher. “Previously we were paying for additional staff simply because we couldn’t quickly access the information we required; the size of the plant means that it’s impossible to make a visual check on who has arrived for work. We even give the agency access to the system for handling its own payroll.”
