Record and measure absence
In order to assess if you have an absence problem you must be able to
monitor and measure it. Collecting data can help to identify trends in
absence and any potential causes. You should include within the conditions
of employment, terms which allow the company to hold more detailed employee
absence records, to allow you to measure absence more effectively.
When measuring absence the following equations are most
commonly used and give information on the different aspects of absence:
Lost time rate
Total absence (hours or days) in the period x 100, divided by the possible
total (hours or days) of the period.
124 divided by 1,550 x 100 = 8 %
